At this year’s Richmond M&M show, Olympus Soft Imaging Solutions presents the Quemesa, the new Olympus Soft Imaging Solutions 11 MegaPixel bottom-mounted CCD TEM camera for all TEM brands.
High sensitivity and contrast at optimal resolution are the ultimate goals for a TEM camera. Every single photon generated in the scintillator per incident electron is needed. This means the scintillator has to be optimized for the entire pear-shaped interaction volume to achieve maximum signal. Consider the Quemesa, the new 11 Megapixel, on-axis TEM camera by Olympus Soft Imaging Solutions, where scintillator thickness and pixel size are perfectly matched to the dimensions of the entire interaction volume.
This ensures the maximum number of photons are detected and guarantees an outstanding output signal from the cooled CCD chip: the essential requirement for high sensitivity and excellent contrast. But Quemesa offers so much more: a visual field the size of a photo plate and high frame rates enabling genuine live-image work on your monitor.
The new concept of the fiber-optically coupled and water-cooled Quemesa sets new image benchmarks regarding resolution, uniformity, contrast, sensitivity and speed for 11 MegaPixel bottom-mounted TEM cameras. The highly sensitive CCD chip provides 4008 x 2664 pixel resolution with 14-bit dynamic range. With an effective pixel size of 18 µm x 18 µm, the Quemesa offers a field of view of 72 mm x 48 mm, a visual field matching the size of a photo plate. Quemesa's fast single port read-out supports various and high frame rates. The camera offers more than 12 frames per second in the high speed mode (binning 4). The high quality full resolution mode offers 2.1 frames per second. A partial read-out mode can be used for navigating throughout the sample, making it attractively convenient to find features of interest and to adjust microscope parameters. Whatever the resolution is, this camera provides superb dynamic range and sensitivity.
Quemesa is integrated with iTEM, Olympus Soft Imaging Solutions' TEM imaging platform, providing real-time shading correction, intensity histograms, auto contrast adjustment and Fast Fourier Transformations during image acquisition.
