Customized adapters The MegaViewG2 consists of a high yield phosphor screen, a prism to reflect the image onto the CCD sensor, as well as housing and flange specific to each TEM. The rigid coupled phosphor scintillator-lens-CCD combination provides optimum conditions for an artifact-free shading correction. The positioning of the phosphor screen inside the TEM is pneumatically driven. X-Ray safety is guaranteed up to 200 KeV.
Special optics The MegaViewG2 camera system is equipped with especially designed lens optics. In conjunction with the CCD chip and the even more efficient scintillator the tuned up optics of the MegaViewG2 system ensures much greater sensitivity and light efficiency, as well as a signal-to-noise ratio higher than ever before.
CCD Chip The highly sensitive 2/3” interline CCD image sensor used in the MegaViewG2 provides a resolution of 1376 x 1032 pixel at 14-bit dynamic range. The pixel size of the CCD chip is 6.45 x 6.45 µm² (effectively ~20 x 20 µm²). The CCD sensor possesses a uniquely high quantum efficiency, which in combination with reduced dark current results in a tremendous increase of the total detective quantum efficiency (DQE) of the camera system. Minimizing power consumption has made active camera cooling superflous.
Binning Several binning modi are supported by MegaViewG2. The users can select between modes of 1x, 2x, 4x and 8x binning. This means sensitivity can be increased even more.
CCD Cooling Noise is generally introduced into an image if the CCD chip is not cooled to a sufficiently low temperature, known as “dark current”. This thermal noise is not a problem with the MegaViewG2 due to a sophisticated Peltier-cooling system which regulates the temperature of the CCD chip at 10° C (@ 25° C ambient temperature). Noise is further suppressed by high efficient read-out technology.
High frame rates The MegaViewG2 supports frame rates of more than 25 images per seconds at 2x binning and of 15 images per seconds at full resolution. This high frame rate is ideal for locating suitable sample segments directly onscreen or adjusting the microscope parameters. At any resolution the camera provides excellent dynamic range and sensitivity.
Variable exposure times The MegaViewG2 offers exposure times ranging from 100 µs to 160 seconds. This is a fundamental prerequisite for being able to acquire images of either intense illumination or of very low intensity.
Optimized scintillators The MegaViewG2 uses optimized high sensitive phosphor scintillators. In order to match customers’ individual demands various scintillators can be customized for several accelerating voltages and applications.
Anti-Blooming / Diffraction The interline architecture of the CCD chip provides a very good isolation of the individual pixels resulting in an extremely high anti-blooming value. This in conjunction with the extremely short exposure times possible with the camera, the acquisition of diffraction images becomes possible.
Real-time functions Integration of the MegaViewG2 into iTEM, Olympus Soft Imaging Solutions TEM imaging platform ensures Real-Time shading correction, intensity histograms, auto contrast adjustment and Real-Time Fast Fourier Transformations during image acquisition.
Integration Furthermore, the integration of the camera into iTEM provides professional functions like autofocus, labeling, processing, archiving, analyzing and report generation. Photographic quality printouts can be obtained virtually in seconds after acquisition – without the darkroom.
